The Institute of Technical Acoustics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is the first academic research institute in the Vitebsk region (established in 1975).

The Institute conducts fundamental and applied research in the fields of semiconductor physics, magnetoelectric phenomena, ultrasonic vibrations, thermoelastic phase transformations, etc.

A Branch Office of the Republican Centre for Technology Transfer is established in the Institute.

The Republican Center for Ultrasonic Technologies operates on the basis of the Institute. It is an interdisciplinary science and technological center for advanced scientific research.

Minsk, the capital of the Republic of Belarus since 1991, is an administrative, industrial, scientific, and cultural center. It was first mentioned in the Chronicle of Bygone Years in 1067. By January 2025, the population of Minsk was reported as just under 2 million. A number of unique cultural and historical landmarks have been preserved in Minsk, most notably: the Church of Saints Simeon and Helena (known as the "Red Church," 1905-1910), the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary (1700-1710), and the Cathedral of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul (1610-1620).
